Owen stood there in his room, staring down at the little rabbit in the palm of his hand with a groan. He curled his fingers around it as blush swept over his cheeks, flinging himself onto his bed to bury his face into his pillow. How silly was this? A teenage boy buying a little stuffed bunny for a girl? He sighed and propped himself up on his elbows to pull his hands free from under the pillow and reveal the rabbit again.
It was such a little toy, it easily fit into his hand, it looked more like a doll’s stuffed animal than anything else. He’d even asked one of his human friends to go buy it for him, just so he would have something Nakia’s size. It cost him 2 weeks of homework and his mother’s chocolate chip cookies, but at least he had something to give Nakia. He’d been fretting over her since they met as kids, but the past few days were probably one of the worst.

It was not odd to be in peril, at least…for these twins.
Obi and Xolani were nagas born a little differently than most others. These two hatched together from the same egg. An egg that had been left to be doomed by any creature passing, though thankfully they had escaped their egg before a predator had found them out. They did not have the size of Scribesian nagas, so they could not protect themselves nearly as well. Scibesians needed to be avoided at all costs for their size and personalities, they were the awful ones that towered far over their own heads and chased after the young pair too many times to count. The boys were not protected by parents, though they had a feeling a Scribesian had gotten their proper caretakers. Without experience in hunting or battle, they did not have a good chance of surviving very long. In their 10th year of age they did not have much experience in anything, but running away.
